TRUE LOVE

(Galatians 4:12-20)

Central Idea: True love requires speaking the truth.

Purpose: To challenge believers to develop open, honest relationships in the church.

True love speaks the truth about personal affection (4:12-14).
True love speaks the truth about personal enmity (4:15-16).
True love speaks the truth about personal zeal (4:17-20).

Central Idea: We substitute our sonship with slavery when we supplement our relationship with religion.

Purpose: To warn Christians not to live by works.
1. A relationship with God brings the freedom of sonship (4:8-9a).
2. A religion of works brings the bondage of slavery (4:9b-11)

Purpose: To teach Christians the proper use of the law.
1. The purpose of the law is to promote sin (3:19-20).
2. The purpose of the law is to imprison sinners (3:21-22).
